Valerian root is a very well known and popular herb used as a medicine. Scientific name for it is Valeriana officinalis. It is generally used as an aid to sleep deprivation problems as well as an aid to anxiety symptoms. Valerians pills are made up of root extracts from a flowering plants commonly found in Europe. The plant belongs to the Valerianaceae family and it is reported that the perennial plant has an unpleasant smell. Valeriana officinalis is the only spice which is associated with medicinal benefits.


Valerian Pills –

Valerian pills are being used for many purposes these days. They are either taken as a mild sedative for a good night sleep or are taken as a medicine to help with the effects of migraine, pains. They are also used as an anticonvulsant and antiseptic by many users.

Valerian herb has a rich composition of minerals. It contains variety of nutrients like Choline, potassium, calcium, zinc, vitamin C, B1, B2, B3, iron, manganese, essential fatty acids, magnesium, selenium and phosphorus. It is believed that the valerian pills can improve the circulation and also reduce mucous buildup in case you have a cold.


Valerian roots are taken as a nonprescription supplement for anxiety. It is also being used as a supplement to prevent fatigue, symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, menstrual cramps, ulcers, muscle cramps and insomnia.

Pills that contain Valerian root extract are said to be more beneficial than the pills containing the extracts from the valerian stem. There are many studies still in progress to find out more uses of valerian tablets. It is also being observed that these pills are not addictive even after using for a long duration of time.

Like every other supplement, dosages are to be taken seriously and should be followed accordingly. If any side effects are experienced by the user, the supplement should be stopped immediately.
